What is Mailchimp?

Mailchimp is an e-marketing tool that allows businesses to communicate key marketing messages through e-shots. Its purpose is to engage with new or existing clients and increase sales opportunities. Mailchimp allows you to graphically design an attractive email template, add content wording and add a target list of who will receive it. Furthermore, once you have sent the e-shot you can monitor who has opened it and measure any call to action links that were clicked.

It’s for businesses that want to enhance their communication and marketing activities by using a sophisticated email-campaign tool to target new and existing clients.

How to use Mailchimp?

Before using Mailchimp it is important to establish the following: marketing message, target audience, content (wording), the sender, images and how you will measure the return.

Once you done this create a Mailchimp account by visiting - keep your logins in a safe place.

Creating a campaign

  • To create a campaign, click the Create Campaign button on the top right hand side. Here you will have two options - you can create a HTML campaign or a plain campaign. Choose a suitable name for your campaign.
  • Choose a suitable subject line for your campaign.
  • You will be prompted to select a list of who you want to send the list to. If you don’t have a list, you will need to create one.
  • To create a list, go to the Lists link on the left of the page. From here you will need to click on the Create List button. Name the list as appropriate, defining list name, sender email address and sender name. Alternatively, you can import a list from Microsoft Excel.
  • Insert a suitable image, title, wording (content) and any disclaimer.
  • Click the Confirm button at the bottom of the screen. Here you will be shown a checklist on how the campaign will be sent. Once you are happy click the send button or even better send a test email to yourself first.
